Remembering Stan the Man

To those of us who grew up listening to Cardinal baseball on KMOX when the Cards were the only team in central USA, Stan Musial was indeed "The Man." One of the most consistent players in the history of the game, he has earned his place in baseball lore. But the thing that most endears him to me is that he was a true gentleman of baseball. He was a class act all the way. In professional sports there are so few today for whom you can root with a clear conscience. Jerks. Selfish. Immoral. I never heard any of that about Stan, though. To all of us from my era, at least, Stan Musial IS Cardinall baseball.
