We'll use Fox's list. When I say "surprises" in the subject line, I don't mean unexpected as much as out of the ordinary.
We'll include Northwestern at #21 just for the sake of history. The Wildcats have not seen themselves in the pre-season big time discussion very often.
Seton Hall at #18 is nice to see. We need to get some of the old-time east coast powers back into the hunt.
Alabama at #17. Getting basketball to be in any way relevant in that state is a monster accomplishment.
USC at #5. I don't like the school and I don't like their coach and I don't like their style. But they have won some games.
