Bob Beamon made his legendary long jump of 29' 2 1/2" at the Mexico City Olympics in 1968. It was not until 1980 that Lutz Dumbrowski jumped
28 feet. Imagine that! How would you like to be the first person in history to jump 28 feet-something - and no one noticed? To this day, almost 50 years later, Beamon's jump remains the second-longest in history. It still stands as the Olympic record.
