Paralleling Iowa State

A year ago, The Mayor (Fred Hoiberg) resigned after a very successful revitalization of Iowa State basketball to take a professional gig. Steve Prohm succeeded him, inheriting a roster loaded with talent and experience. I saw a quote by Prohm saying that he had instituted perhaps 25% of the systems that he had used successfully at Murray State. They had a good season, winning 23 games, including two in the NCAA tournament.

My point is that Prohm realized he was set up for success and had enough sense not to mess too much with the system that had brought the players to that point. He put his stamp on it to a certain degree, but he did not institute a complete overhaul. Hopefully that is what Wes Flanigan will do. The Trojans had their best season ever, they know the system, and he does not want to risk destroying the chemistry by dumping everything and starting fresh. He can do that season after next, when he will have a houseful of new recruits.
