Marcus Johnson is not a point guard. Yes, he played it at juco and put up some gaudy numbers, but that is not too hard to do at juco with the style normally played there. A point guard makes the sum of the parts be greater than the whole; in other words, he makes the team better. Johnson can be a spectacular player, but he is not making us a spectacular team.
The problem is that there is not a better option on the horizon. Osse has played a little point in the past, but he certainly is not the answer. Ditto for Deondre Burns. Watkins might or might not solve the problem, but he is not available yet. For the time being we are stuck with Johnson, who was very good at the 2 spot last year, but who is not getting it done at point. In this particular instance, the injury to Watkins probably will prove to have been devastating. Imagine this year's team with Zack Graber at point, or D'Andre Williams.
